McDermott's


One of our most recent projects was the design and manufacture of the controls for a 150T electrically driven A&R (Abandonment & Recovery) Winch for McDermott's Inc. The control systems were designed and manufactured here in Scotland and installation and commissioning was carried out in Singapore by four of our UK based staff.



Subsea 7/MDL


Finesse Control Systems have designed and developed the electrical drives and PLC control systems for numerous projects which MDL have successfully delivered to the Marine construction sector. These have included the controls for Reel Drives and Tensioners for laying subsea cables and pipelines as well as integrated controls for multiple deck winch systems, which have to synchronise with other vendors’ equipment on a dual redundant safety PLC network. One such project was the design, build and commissioning of a control system for a spread of 10 electrically driven deck winches in 2012 for delivery in the first half of 2013 on what was then Subsea Seven’s latest pipelay vessel the Seven Waves. The contract was supplied ahead of schedule and hardware was being commissioned in March 2013. The system consisted of 8 drive panels holding Siemens S120 Drives for 10 winches ranging from 5Te to 40Te and a PLC panel, incorporating an S7-400 FH dual-redundant safety PLC and an HMI with a further 10 Local Control Panels containing remote IO networked over dual-redundant Profibus for local control of each winch on deck. Additionally, a Cavotec Walkabout Box (WAB) wireless system was incorporated allowing winch operation from various vantage points.



Based on the quality of our manufacturing and commissioning Finesse were subsequently awarded a further three contracts to outfit the remaining Subsea 7 flagship pipelay vessels the Seven Rio, Seven Sun and Seven Cruzerio.

FCS also provided additional hardware in the form of a drive panel and control system to control the on-board 15Te Overbender Track Tensioner on all 4 vessels. The system employs an S7-300FH PLC which controls the hydraulic system to provide the required 'squeeze' on the product and a Siemens S120 drive system which provides track movement and control. The Tensioner is controlled via a local control panel mounted on the tensioner or again wirelessly via a Cavotec WAB system.



Technip


Finesse Control Systems provided the design, build and controls for the pipelay and mooring winch control desks on Technips' Apache II Rigid Reel-lay & J-Lay pipelay Vessel. We are proud to provide aftersales support and continuing upgrades to this highly reliable and accomplished vessel.



Optima


On a very tight timescale, FCS delivered distribution and IMCC soft start control panels for four 315Kw high pressure water pumps. Enjoy the video demonstrating Finesse workshop high speed delivery!



PMP Interplex


Finesse undertook the electrical, pneumatic control, software design & development and subsequent complete machine assembly for an automated test machine for a local automotive electronic parts manufacturer. The solution included configuring a Siemens s110 Servo drive for precision motion positioning & integrated safety via a light curtain & two handed push button sequence start to ensure operator safety.



MDL 400Te RDS


Finesse Control Systems provides new control systems for a 400Te RDS for Maritime Developments Ltd.



Containerised Workshops


Finesse recently seconded Compex electricians to a local offshore fabricator for the installation of safe and hazardous area containerised workshops and office space.
